Day 31~Jan. 31, 2011 Gone South for the Winter

It was a beautiful, sunny, winter day today. Even though I had to work I was on a later shift so I had a little time to look for a subject. I found several and after some considerations decided on an empty nest. I called it

Day 30~Jan. 30, 2011 Abstract Sparkles

Today's effort didn't come out quite the way I wanted. I'll have to revisit this theme to improve. But the challenge is a photo a day even if it isn't that great so I guess this one will fall in that category. Still, I have a photo.

Day29~Jan 29, 2011 Snowman Family for a snowy Winter

A 10 hour shift inside stopped me from searching out some outside shots but trust me when I tell you, it's still all white!

On display in the office, this Snowman Family is a reminder of what is waiting on the outside.

Day 28~Jan. 28, 2011 Ms. Liberty Tax

It's that time of year. W2s and 1099s are in the mail. H & R Block and other Tax offices are opening up and extending hours to help us get ready to file the dreaded tax returns. A fixture on Winthrop St in Taunton is the Liberty Tax Office and during this season we can often see Ms. Liberty herself outside promoting the office. Today, in spite of the snow banks, Ms Liberty was waving at passerbys and cars. I like the picture because it really shows how much snow is piled along the sidewalks..and they say more is on the way!

Day 27~Jan 27,2011 After the Storm

The aftermath of this last storm gave me many opportunities  to capture  a photographic moment. From the gray, snowy morning to the brilliant blue sky of the afternoon. It was hard to decide which picture most captured the day. I finally decided on a picture of I took from the car while I was sitting at a light in the Taunton Town Green.  It is not the kind of picture I normally take but the contrast of the white snowy trees against the dark buildings just caught my attention.

Day 25...Jan 25, 2010 Robin in Snow

Another snowy day and more on the way tomorrow and Thursday. I was out driving around looking for a "Different" snow picture. I headed down to the Weir section of Taunton on the Taunton River. I had seen a bunch of birds on the ice there a few days ago but with the snow banks couldn't get close enough for a picture. With more time today I decided to try again. I spooked  2 dark colored ducks that had tuffed heads before I could get a shot so I tried to work my way farther down the river to see if I could find them again. Instead I found a tree that was loaded with Robins! So on a gray day I have a spot of color to share.

Sweet "Hearts"

One of my co-workers has a bowl of valentine candy hearts on her desk. I thought the bright colors would make a great shot for this project.

Day 23~Jan 23, 2011 Beautiful clear day

Today was such a beautiful day that it just cried out to be photographed. Unfortunately I was at work..a 12 hour shift without even a window. Still I had to take a picture so I stole 5 minutes on my break. This is the result.

Day 22 Jan. 22, 2011 Rocky

I was just wandering aorund looking for a subject when Rocky crouched down right in front of me. I had to take a picture.

Pink Silk Flowers

I am definitely learning that taking pictures of toys and inanimate objects is not my strength. I think I do better with nature and landscapes but this challenge is about taking pictures that you'd normally pass by so here's today's offering. These are silk flowers on a desk at work.

Day 20~ Jan 20, 2011 Hawaiian Dreams

Another snow storm on it's way . Temps in the 20's. Can't help thinking of of escape to a topical paradise. Since that's just not in the cards for now, I played with my toys from Hawaii to set a scene.

Day 19..Jan 19,2011 Hang in there, Kitty

I went out in the rain searching for "gray" urban blight photos as suggested by my photo coach. I got some good ones but that is relative. They are good because they are really depressing. So I decided to just take some pictures around the house. Here's my choice for today's Picture of the Day.

First Snow and now rain!

It's a very gray and dreary day. I'm sure there are some great things to photograph but I was at work all day. I only had about 15 minutes to find a subject. I took this picture of the parking lot at work on a whim. The snow banks against the wet pavement and even the sand in the foreground all add up to illustrate the kind of day it was.

Day 17~Jan. 17,2011 Icy Falls Nemasket River

What a beautiful day. I'm still trying to capture the pristine beauty at the Nemasket Herring Run. I took a lot of pictures of the little falls  at the Herring run. There were icicles as well as flowing water. I used different exposures and shutter speeds. Each had something to offer so the only choice is do I want a sparkly or frothy look?. As the say on that quiz show...Is that your final answer?

Yes , here it is.

Day 16.~Jan 16, 2011 Pat Lose ! Go Sox!

Is it Spring Training yet? The Pats came to in inglorious end falling to the trash talking Jets.  A day of mourning has been declared in Patriots Nation.  In one month's time the pitchers and catchers report to sunny Florida for Spring Training and Red Sox Nation will rise to fill the void.  He's my #16 post in honor of the coming spring.

Day 15~Jan. 15, 2011 Ice covered Grass

The winter theme continues. It was a bright , cold winter day as I headed to work. As I got close to the Herring Run on the Nemasket River I could see the sun glinting on the water and I decided to see what kind of pictures I could get this morning. I only had a few minutes to spare. Chosing one  for today was hard. If this one doesn't appeal to you, check out my Flickr photostream for the other shots from this morning.

day14~Jan. 14, 2011 Evening snow bench

This was an especially challenging day. It was a work day so there wasn't alot of time to look for subjects. Then it's been snowing all month so it's hard to find something that looks "different". I tried a few different subjects but just didn't like the result but as I came home at about 9:45 pm I saw the steam vent from the building laundry was working overtime and great billows of steam were coming out behind the snow covered bench and urn. I decided to see what kind of picture that would make.
This is the result.

Day 13 ~ Jan. 13, 2011

The day was clear and cold. Every opportunity seemed to involve snow or ice.

Day 11...Jan 11, 2011 Squirrel

Hiked some trails in the Gertrude M. Boyden Wildlife Sanctuary. The birds and animals must know there's a storm coming because it was awfully quiet. I finally ran across some squirrels stocking up on seeds under one of the bird feeders at visitor center.

Day 9...Jan 9, 2011 ~ Winter Pond

After a heavy winter storm last night, the sun came out and the day became beautiful and clear, if cold. I was at work but couldn't resist taking a break to grab a picture of the frozen pond behind the office.

Day 8 - Jan 8, 2011 Red Berries

More Snow! But these red berries were right in my front yard. I just never noticed them before.

Day 7~ Jan. 7 Smokey

Work days are hard as there is little to no time to look for subjects. I am falling back on an old faithful subject for today, my cats. Rocky being a handsome orange cat is wonderfully photogenic but I am always accused of ignoring Smokey. Smokey lives up to his name with a silver- blue-gray coat and wonderful green eyes. I haven't been able to get a really good picture of him yet so I made him my subject tonight. With 365 photo ops, I am sure you will see many of Rocky down the line.

Day 6 Jan 6, 2011

Much more of a challenge today. I was running late to work but still wanted to get a picture for the challenge. I grabbed this photo really quickly. It's of a house on my street.

Day 4, Jan 4

In an effort to make up for the bad camera settings yesterday, I returned to the Gertrude Boyden Sanctuary to see if I could get lucky twice. It was hard to chose just one picture. I narrowed it down to 4 and now my final choice is here for your review.

Day 3 ~ Jan. 3~ OOPS!

Day 3 and in my rush to be sure I got a shot I forgot to reset my white balance. I haven't started shooting raw yet so all of my outdoor shots have a lovely blue cast. Even so there was one picture I had to try to fix because it caught the little bird just right so here it is. After all, the challenge rules say  1 photo per day, the good and the bad!

Day 2 Jan 2, 2011

Day 2 of the 365 day Challenge. Already I have run into an obstacle. I left for work in the dark and am going home in the dark. I wanted to stay away from any more Christmas trees but they are everywhere in the office.  After trying a variety of subjects, I ended up with one of the trees in the cafeteria. At least I got a picture. I'd hate to fail the challenge on only the 2nd day in!

Day 1 Jan 1, 2011

This is my  day 1 contribution.
I took this at the Herring Run on RT 44 on my way to work.
It was overcast but about 1pm in the afternoon.
Yes, I was working on New Years Day. We never close!

What is the Project 365 Challenge

Project 365

Project 365 is a Photo  Challenge that I recently came across. The challenge is to take a picture every day for 365 consecutive days and post them. The good, the bad and the ugly. Any camera works, even a camera phone. Most people don't make it but if it were easy, it wouldn't be called a Challenge. I'm going to try and document my progress here. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.
